About ESCPSNA
The Eastern Suburbs Combined Primary Schools Netball Association (ESCPSNA) is the original primary school netball competition in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. For more than 40 years, we’ve been giving local children the chance to play, learn, and enjoy the game of netball close to home.
Our competition is open to primary school students in Years 2–6, with games played on Saturdays during Terms 2 and 3 (excluding school and public holiday weekends). All matches take place at the Waverley Park Netball Courts, off Birrell Street.
Run entirely by volunteers, ESCPSNA is built on community spirit and a shared love of netball — creating a fun, supportive environment where kids can develop skills, teamwork, and friendships that last well beyond the court.

The Competition

Each participating school must have at least one representative on the ESCPSNA Committee. The Committee meets a minimum of twice per season at a mutually convenient location.
Executive Committee (these members should be from different schools if possible)
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Judiciary
Other Office Bearers of the Committee
Public Officer
Umpire Coordinator (Non-Voluntary Role)
-
When resolutions or matters requiring support are raised at Committee meetings, each school is entitled to one vote, regardless of the number of representatives present.
-
Umpires are recruited and trained by the Umpire Coordinator.
All umpires must attend a pre-season training session prior to the competition start — including one session for Regular Rules and one for Modified Netball.
Each game is officiated by two umpires.
Umpires are paid a standard game rate, with an additional allowance for those assisting with pre-match setup.
Umpires are independent and not affiliated with any team. They officiate without bias.
Player, Coach & Spectator Conduct
Umpire decisions must not be questioned during play.
Only the coach may approach an umpire during breaks, and only in a respectful manner.
Positive sideline coaching is encouraged but limited to the coach only.
Coaches must remain off the baselines and move if obstructing umpires.
Spectators should remain supportive but not overly vocal, as umpires need to be heard.
-
Teams are organised by school grade: Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6 (Opens).
Only the Opens division plays finals.
Teams must have a minimum of 7 players.
Each player may register for only one team.
All players must be current students of the school they represent.
Each school may register up to two teams per age group, with a possible third team subject to Executive approval.
Combined Teams
If a school has extra players, they may form a combined team with another school. The combined team will be registered under the school with the most players.
Team Sheets & Registration
Coaches/managers must list each player’s first and last name on the score sheet and sign to confirm registration.
Unregistered players are not permitted to play, except when “playing up or across” under approved rules.
Teams may begin with a minimum of 5 players. A 2-minute grace period is allowed to source additional players before a forfeit is declared.
Opens Division
Each player must sign next to their name before each game.
The coach must sign to confirm player eligibility.
Boys Participation
Up to three boys may be registered per team.
Only two boys may be on court at any time, and they must play in different thirds (attack, centre, defence).
Invalid combinations include:
C/WA, C/WD, WA/WD, GS/GA, GK/GD.
-
Players may play up a grade, but not down.
(e.g. Year 4s may play in Year 5, but not Year 3.)
Players may play across in the same year group (except in Opens).
A team may use up to three registered players from the grade below.
A player may play a maximum of two games per day.
-
The Opens year is an exciting and competitive phase for players.
Weeks 1–5: Random draw.
After Week 5: Points and goal totals determine ranking.
Teams are then placed in Division 1 or Division 2 to ensure fair competition.
Week 6 onwards: Divisional competition begins.
Both divisions compete for trophies.
-
2025 Registration Fee: $200 per player.
Active Kids Vouchers are not accepted.
Fees are set annually by the Committee based on running costs.
-
All games are played at Waverley Park Netball Courts, Birrell Street, Waverley.
